VIELCA – CPS is preparing a mobility plan for the municipality of Managua that contributes to the municipality’s economic and social development, promotes non-motorized mobility, and facilitates improvements in citizens’ quality of life. This plan is based on an integrated public transport model that offers safe, accessible, and high-quality services to the population, ensures the financial and economic sustainability of the system and its operators, and is environmentally friendly, while also improving traffic flow at high-volume intersections.
The aim is to align the public transport system with the municipality’s geographic expansion and its economic and social development, ensuring efficient coverage of required transport services. This involves supplementing current public transport offerings with new, integrated, and complementary modes—such as BRT, taxi stands, and premium collective transport routes—in line with the recommendations of the Managua Urban Development Master Plan; promoting business efficiency through the professionalization of operator organizations and adherence to service quality standards; modernizing the management, regulatory, and oversight capabilities of the relevant institutions; recommending a public-private investment model for the transport sector that appeals to international funding sources; and improving traffic flow and citizen mobility by redesigning six key intersections within the capital’s road network.
