DEVELOPMENT OF THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC FOREST DATA SYSTEM
Vielca developed the country’s forest data management system, creating an integrated database, forms for data entry, automating carbon calculations according to the United Nations Framework Convention, and displaying graphical and geographic data. All of this was published on a web portal with a documentation kit and e-learning resources.
DEVELOPMENT OF THE BELIZE FOREST DATA SYSTEM (FIS)
Forest data management systems are key to the proper management of forest resources. In this instance, Vielca supported the Ministry of the Environment of this country in creating a software application to replace existing spreadsheets, improving integration and technology.
USE OF COLLECT EARTH ONLINE FOR PHOTOINTERPRETATION IN THE VERAPACES (GUATEMALA)
Vielca carried out a service using Collect Earth Online, photointerpretation software, to analyze land use changes (mainly forest degradation and deforestation) in the Las Verapaces region of Guatemala.
CONDUCTING A MAPATHON USING COLLECT EARTH AND DATA PROCESSING.
Vielca planned, coordinated, and executed a mapathon (data collection) to quantify land-use changes, with the support of local social actors. The unique aspect of this service is that the multi-day mapathon activity took place on-site, in the Bosawás rainforest of Nicaragua.
